Hope is the Thing with Feathers, inspired and titled after Emily Dickinson’s poem, explores the visual embodiment of hope as it emerges and radiates against darkness. As I prepare to release this pattern, I have been thinking a lot about the concept of hope.  I designed this quilt during a time when I was finding it all too easy to dwell in the darkness happening around me and much more difficult to identify rays of hope. Making this quilt was my tribute to a fragile yet defiant kind of hope.

I spent a considerable amount of time searching for the right colors for this project. I wanted to convey the illusion of warmth and light. I chose Moda Grunge for its subtle variations and saturated color. Here are the colors I used:

Decadent

Lemon Drop

Chiffon

Yellow Gold

Russett Orange

Tangerine

Scarlet

Flamingo

Paradise Pink

Raspberry

Plum

Loganberry

Eggplant

Peacoat

If you want to prepare for this project in advance of the release, here are the fabric requirements:
