Happy Tuesday everyone. I hope your MLK weekend offered rest and reflection and that you are feeling ready for week three of the In Protest sew-along. This week, we are making progress on the hand and sign blocks.

Week Three:

I've loved seeing your check-ins from weeks one and two. So many colorful hands coming together! For this week, please continue to share your creations. If you are keeping pace with the weekly schedule, this week you can work on assembling sections 1 and 3 (units A through E and O through R) and continue to work on the sign block. If you are just joining or are working ahead, that's ok too!

As a reminder, please make sure to tag or mention me in your posts so that I can see and track them. Participants who post at least two check-ins over the course of the sew-along will be entered to win a prize. You can mention me by typing @quiltbynight (make sure to include the @) in your caption or tag me by clicking 'tag people' and adding me.

If your account is set to private, I won't be able to see your tag/mention. You can either switch your account to public for the duration of the sew-along, or you can screenshot your posts and send them to me as a message.

In Protest in the Wild:

My In Protest quilt was recently featured in Love Patchwork and Quilting magazine in an article about the history of protest quilts.

I love this quote from the article:

"While social media rewards immediacy, a protest quilt requires the maker to sit with the problem, to feel it through the fingertips, to transform anger into something physical and enduring. [...] A viewer may see only colour and pattern, but beneath the surface lies time itself: hours spent choosing, cutting, piecing, pressing, breathing. Every stitch declares that the issue is worth the wait."

Quilting makes us slow down in a world of fast-paced reels and instant gratification. It's one of the things I love about this artform.

I highly recommend grabbing a copy of the magazine or checking it out from your library! (I can access it digitally through my library using Libby.)

Enough about me, tell me about you!

We currently have over 300 people participating in this sew-along in one way or another. (Wow!) Whether you are following along week to week exactly as prescribed or ready to commit to a protest sign, but not ready to tackle FPP yet, I'm so glad you're here. The scientist in me would love to gather a bit of data about where you’re coming from (how many states or countries are represented?), and the liberal arts grad in me would love to hear more of your story. If you have a moment, I’d be grateful if you’d fill out this brief survey. All questions are optional.

Feeling Chatty:

I have tried to assign everyone who opted in to the Instagram chat to a group. If you opted in and are not yet assigned, please send me a message on Instagram (@quiltbynight) so we can troubleshoot. These chat groups are a safe space to share ideas, ask questions, and make some new quilty friends.

New here?

If you signed up recently, please be sure to check my blog for previous weekly emails.

That's all for today! Thanks again for being here :)

Warmly,

Becky
